The CareTech Foundation recognises that research and innovation are crucial in understanding and supporting people with physical and learning disabilities and mental health. This year £860,000 has been granted to four organisations working to develop knowledge for the social care sector. The CareTech Foundation has supported eight academic research projects and helped build a state-of-the-art research facility.
The partnership with Birkbeck has concluded with the ToddlerLab conducting academic research projects. Autistica is on the second round of the Social Care Action Fund applications, and the previous research projects have progressed in their early stages. These projects represent step changes in how autism and neurodevelopment are understood and supported.
Two new partnerships were launched this year with The Children’s Trust to acquire a cutting-edge robotic aided gait trainer for paediatric rehabilitation, alongside the Alzheimer’s Society Longitude Prize on Dementia to innovate a product that will improve dementia care.
