The CareTech Foundation and RNIB have developed a programme to improve support for people with complex needs in care settings to receive basic eye care regardless of their additional needs and conditions. The project assesses and develops the Vision Friends initiative that supports sight loss training programs and the Train the Trainer resource for the care sector.

This year, 148 facilitators have been trained, including 144 members of CareTech Ltd staff. Five CareTech Ltd employees underwent additional training to become Vision Champions, gaining advanced information and a toolkit to support people throughout their eye care journey.

New resources and educational framework have been implemented to increase the confidence and skill of those supporting adults with learning disabilities and sight loss. The outcomes from this training will support continuous improvement in how RNIB trains and builds relationships with external touchpoints.
