Depaul:

Improving the mental health of homeless young people in North East

The Foundation’s partnership with DePaul UK has seen over 300 young people experiencing homelessness in the North East receive crucial mental health support. DePaul UK supported young people aged 16-25 who found themselves homeless by providing emergency accommodation, supported housing and other services which help young people rebuild their lives.

The programme achieved the agreed targets over the three year period and despite Covid-19 being a challenge for two years, staff training and the addition of a local Mental Health and Wellbeing Manager has meant localised in-house support is now readily available. This, along with 82 staff members receiving training, has negated some of the impact that may have been caused due to longer waiting times for external specialist support for young people. Additional support has also been brought on with substance abuse.
