Supporting unpaid family carers of persons with disabilities in Savar, Bangladesh
Carers Worldwide has now delivered the first year of the programme with outstanding results. The programme’s reach and profile has grown considerably with the publication of its 10 Year Impact Report and the livelihood training being offered to unpaid carers. The livelihood training, in particular, has taken many unpaid carers out of extreme poverty and offered them an income source. The Foundation’s funding has enabled Carers Worldwide to expand its essential services. Barefoot counsellors work with local unpaid carers and ensure mental health support is readily available, a day care centre has been established which gives unpaid carer parents a place to socialise and meet with counsellors available on-site and 50 support groups have been set-up which deliver regular engagement to 857 of the 1,002 carers engaging the programme.
