CareTech Foundation X Northampton Saints Foundation: Memory Cafe
The CareTech Foundation is pleased to announce its funding of the Memory Café.
The CareTech Foundation is pleased to announce its funding of the Memory Café, an initiative by the Northampton Saints Foundation, ensuring the continuation of its vital work in combating loneliness and social isolation. Thanks to a grant of £2500, the programme will continue to support the local community.
Since July 2023, the Northampton Saints Foundation has delivered eleven Memory Café sessions at cinch Stadium, Franklin’s Gardens. The Memory Café offers a welcoming space for those experiencing loneliness, memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of dementia, along with their caregivers and loved ones.
The café provides a safe environment where participants can engage in meaningful activities, share experiences, and enjoy social interaction without the stigma often associated with cognitive impairment. Activities include music, art, games, and exploring the stadium while learning about the rich history of Northampton Saints.
One participant shared the impact of the Memory Café: “The world of dementia is challenging. As a spouse and carer, although you are not alone, it is incredibly lonely… That’s where community groups provide such support. You meet people and build a network with those in similar circumstances, who understand what you are going through 24/7.”
The success of the Memory Café highlights the importance of such initiatives, especially in light of Age UK’s findings on the increase in loneliness among older people due to the pandemic.
One participant, Chris H., whose husband has dementia, expressed her gratitude: “Each month that we have returned, it’s been like returning to a group that we’ve known for years. Thank you for always making us so welcome and making the whole experience uplifting!”
The CareTech Foundation looks forward to strengthening its partnership with the Northampton Saints Foundation, building on the success of the Memory Café, and continuing to provide essential support to the local community.
