We are pleased to award a Match-Funding Grant of £350 to Lisa Kelly, to support her efforts to raise funds for the Mencap charity.
“I was lucky to run the London marathon this year in aid of Mencap. The place was originally my husband’s but due to injury he was no longer able to take part, so Mencap agreed to allow me to run in his place and take over the fundraising. If anyone has ever tried to fundraiser you will know it’s not easy so I had think outside the box. I held a charity quiz night, where local businesses donated prizes for a raffle, we also held an auction of signed sporting memorabilia that had been donated from premier league football teams and England Rugby club. The evening was a success and with over 15 teams attending the fundraising was off to a great start. Family and friends sponsored me and I also made 60 individual cheesecakes which sold immediately boosting my pot even further.
The marathon was an experience everyone should try if given the opportunity, the crowds and support are amazing and it’s definitely an emotional day. By the end of the day my fundraising had reached £2158. I had applied for the Caretech Foundation Match Funding and was lucky enough to hear from them the week after completing the marathon to say I had been successful taking my fundraising to £2508. I can’t thank CareTech Foundation enough for giving me the opportunity to raise more money for a worthy charity
We chose Mencap as our charity as we have both worked with adults with Learning disabilities for over 20 years either in a care setting or independently in their own homes, and Mencap have supported many of our individuals over the years. Some of the current individuals I support attend community activities organised by Mencap so it has been great to witness the support from the charity first hand”
