The Foundation awarded a Match-Funding Grant to Abigail’s Footsteps, supporting the fundraising efforts of Amanda Davis, a Team Leader Support Worker. Below, Amanda explains what fuelled her passion and why she felt compelled to run:
“Running has always been a passion of mine but only for distances such as 10km. However, I decided I wanted to try and push myself to do more, I signed up for the London Landmarks Half Marathon in 2020 but due to Covid and cancellations, I deferred my place to 2021. However, I again had to defer my place due to falling pregnant with my miracle rainbow baby. It was for this reason that I chose to sign up for a charity place before taking on the run this year."
"I chose Abigail’s Footsteps as their mission and the support they offer was very close to my heart. Over the past 7 years, my husband and I sadly lost 3 babies due to miscarriages and then was told that we would need to use IVF or a surrogate to have our own baby. After each of my losses I was never offered any support or counselling. Abigail’s Footsteps offers a block of counselling sessions for parents after the loss of a child. Each block costs a total of £350. This set my goal for my half marathon, knowing that if I raised this amount I would be able to give a family something so important. Thanks to the CareTech Foundation match funding, I raised £700 for the charity and the extra £350 will allow a second family to be able to receive these sessions as well”.
