Accelerating Skills Development for People That Live and Work in the Social Care Sector
The CareTech Foundation’s support aims to upscale and expand a UK Aid-funded pilot of the programme and support the health and socioeconomic wellbeing of unpaid family carers in Savar, Bangladesh.
The three-year programme will be delivered by Carers Worldwide and is co-funded by Rangoonwala Foundation. The project will continue the successfully tested approach to support 1,008 unpaid family carers in the region, addressing their social, mental, physical, and economic challenges. So far, 73 carers have been trained in livelihood activities.
“Nazma Begum’s 3-year-old son has cerebral palsy. When the extent of Niloy’s disabilities became apparent, Nazma’s husband left her and took with him the money she had saved. Abandoned herself as a young child and raised by a foster mother, Nazma has no other family network to support her. An active member of her local carers group now, Nazma is benefiting from regular counselling made available through the barefoot counsellors trained by the project. This has significantly impacted her mental health, and her smile has returned. As part of a previous project, Nazma received small business training and a livelihoods loan to set up a bakery business. Initially operating from home, Nazma now rents a small shop selling homemade biscuits, cakes, and takeaway coffee. Nazma is keen to use her experience and skills to motivate new carers.”
