Murton was the Chair of Special Olympics Great Britain until 2020. First involved with physically disability sport in 1989, Murton’s first engagement with Special Olympics was in 1999, volunteer coaching Special Olympics Ireland skiers (accompanying them to the 2001 World Winter Games in Alaska).
He went on to join the organising committee of the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Dublin. On returning to the UK Murton joined the Board of Special Olympics Great Britain and was then appointed as Chair of the Board Trustees.
In the New Year Honours 2021, Murton was awarded an MBE for services to People with Intellectual Disabilities.

Commercially, Murton has 30 years’ experience advising corporates, government and major global sporting events on strategy development, business planning and execution. In the corporate sector he has led the set-up of companies in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Whilst in major sporting events he led key programmes in London 2012, Vancouver 2010, Torino 2006 and the Dublin 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Murton draws on his professional experiences with the aim of increasing the positive impact on people with disabilities.
