The CareTech Charitable Foundation is proud to announce a significant new partnership with Together for Short Lives, providing £225,000 in funding over the next three years. This partnership aims to support families affected by life-limiting conditions in children, offering vital emotional, practical, and financial assistance.

The number of children in England living with life-limiting conditions has increased significantly, from 32,975 in 2001/02 to 86,625 in 2017/18, with projections suggesting further growth. Families from black and minority ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately affected, often facing cultural, genetic, and socioeconomic barriers to accessing essential support. Research shows that 87% of parents report negative impacts on their mental health, with 82% citing physical health challenges due to the strains of caregiving.

In this partnership, the Foundation and Together for Short Lives will work together to deliver coordinated support services, outreach efforts, and professional awareness initiatives, focusing particularly on underrepresented communities, including those from BAME backgrounds. These initiatives aim to provide families with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of caring for a child with a life-limiting condition.

Key goals of the partnership include:

Support for families across the UK:
• 3,265 families will receive information and emotional support via a dedicated hub.
• 1,252 families will benefit from practical or financial assistance.

Targeted support in priority regions:
• 40 outreach events across four regions, engaging with 3,840 families through awareness campaigns and memory-making activities.
• 4,000 families will receive information and emotional support.
• 875 families will receive financial or practical assistance.

Professional education and networking:
• Raising awareness and offering practical support for 1,000 professionals through training and events.

CareTech Ltd, a leading care provider, will also offer its in-kind support, further enabling the Foundation and Together for Short Lives to achieve these critical milestones.

This partnership represents the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to reducing healthcare inequalities and providing families with the support they need. By improving the lives of children with life-limiting conditions and empowering their families.
