PSEI – Pakistan Special Education Initative
In 2017, CareTech Ltd founded its very own corporate Foundation, CareTech Charitable Foundation. The Pakistan Special Education Initiative (PSEI) is the outcome of decades of experience supporting people with disabilities and operating special education needs schools in the UK. PSEI is founded and funded by the CareTech Foundation, and supported by the Children of Sheikh Abdul Rashid and Fahmida (COSARAF) Foundation, in Karachi.
It was through the foundations work to date and the Pakistani heritage of those involved in the charity that we saw a lack of public funding, infrastructure, and expertise that has left Pakistan’s education system in urgent need of intervention to support 2-17-year-olds with SEND requirements. Though pockets of special education schools may exist in some cities, most mainstream schools lack the resources to cater to students with mild to moderate needs. Children with SEND require resources that will enable them to develop similar to their non-SEND peers, and teachers and parents of SEND children require support and education as well.
After a series of productive discussions with higher management, stakeholders in Pakistan and international operators, key objectives of PSEI were identified and the programme was provided funding.
